ChaLou Wines is the passion project of winemakers and vignerons Nadja and Steve in Orange, New South Wales. Both grew up on family vineyards, Nadja at Canowindra and Steve near Port Macquarie, and met while studying winemaking at Charles Sturt University in 2008. They then went separate ways: Steve worked in Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Germany, and Nadja made wine in France, the United States and South Africa.
They reunited in Orange in 2014, Nadja joining Philip Shaw Wines and Steve joining Cumulus, and fell in love with each other and the region. In 2017 Steve took over Wallington Wines, Nadja's family winery. Nadja had worked for years with fruit from the 6-hectare vineyard that became ChaLou Estate, planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and other varieties, and was excited by its expression.
Visitors to the cellar door are hosted by Nadja and Steve, who share their love of the land and each vintage.
