Henskens Rankin of Tasmania was founded in 2010 to create luxurious sparkling wines evocative of Tasmania. Frieda Henskens, a New Zealand-born plant physiologist, moved into viticulture and winemaking after coming to Tasmania and marrying botanist and statistician David Rankin in the early 2000s.
Inspired by Champagne grower Eric Rodez, whom she met during her master's studies in 2011, Frieda set out to make late-disgorged sparkling wines aged for many years on lees. Their first wine, the 2010 Vintage Brut, was named Champion Wine of Show at the 2019 Tasmanian Wine Show, also winning best late-disgorged sparkling, after close to a decade of work.
The business is founded on the principle that luxury is ethical, with ethically sourced materials and reused packaging wherever possible.
