Mandala is a family Yarra Valley winery founded by Charles Smedley, whose first love is Pinot Noir. That passion led him to the Yarra Valley in 1999, where he planted his first ten acres of Burgundian clones at the Yarra Junction vineyard. For the family it was a dream come true: they had long wanted a place to grow grapes, make their own wine and share it.
The family later added a vineyard at Dixons Creek, first visited in 2006, and the signature Estate Pinot is named after Charles' grandmother, who is said to have sent a vision of rolling hills and vines to his mother in a dream before that first visit. The wines, each named after family members, have also included Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.
Charles now focuses on his two great loves, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, made entirely from the premium Yarra Junction vineyard. Mandala also brings tastings to corporate and group events.
