Rusty Mutt is the McLaren Vale label of owner and winemaker Scott Heidrich. Scott grew up in the Barossa Valley, where his father made a batch of Grenache in an old bathtub from the family vineyard. He studied wine science at Roseworthy College from 1989 to 1991, worked cellar jobs in the Barossa, moved to McLaren Vale in 1993, and is a senior winemaker for another McLaren Vale company.
Scott believes winemaking is a very personal process in which personality shapes the finished wine.
There is little Rusty Mutt left to taste, but his new Vin Sōl range appears at events such as Cellar Door Fest in Adelaide and the Good Food and Wine Show. There is no cellar door.
